First 2021 RSC Finish from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I love this time of year.  Not only is it my favorite season, it is also the time of year when quilters wrap up their Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts.  They are always so exciting to see.

I have finished my scrappy Well Suited quilt.  When I started this quilt, I wanted to work on cleaning out some of the "unwanted" big chunks of scraps clogging up my scrap bins.

I used solid scraps for the center flying scraps and then paired them with a coordinating print.  This quilt was all about making space in the scrap bins!

I could have ...

Oh Scrap! : Still Making Progress from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

This last week I continued to work on finishing blocks for a few of my scrappy projects.

Look what I found!  I knew I had made four of these Chaser blocks last week.  I found this missing one in a wrong stack of blocks.

I finished five more of my Well Suited blocks.  I think I now have just two more blocks to complete and I can start sewing the quilt top together.  I have to admit, I am getting pretty bored of this project so I am super happy to winding it up soon.

I also used some of ...

Oh Scrap! : Various Blocks from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I have a large pile of various cut blocks sitting next to my sewing machine so that when I get a moment, I can go in there and sew a few seams.  I never quite know what blocks are going to end up being completed.  But I seem to have made some more progress this week.

I finished up six more RSC Well Suited blocks.  I think I just need to sew the pieces next to my machine and I will have enough for my quilt.  This quilt is really scrappy and will probably end up being a donation quilt ...

Oh Scrap! : Scrappy Block Progress from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I have been spending quite a bit of time lately in my sewing room.

I finished up nine more of my Well Suited blocks.  I have been working on this RSC quilt all year and have decided I just want to get it done.

I think I want a 7 x 9 layout so that means I need 22 more blocks.  I think I have 13 blocks cut and waiting to sew.  I might have to raid some stash pieces to find some solid colors (for the geese) that I haven't used yet.  So far all of these have ...

Oh Scrap! : Focussing on some Finishes from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I feel like I haven't had a finish in a really long time.  I find myself juggling a number of projects each month and don't feel like I am making much progress.  So I feel think it is time to focus on a few and get a few projects to the finish line.

A quick and easy finish is the baby quilt I just started.  This week I finished cutting all the scrappy squares and put it up on my design wall.  Now all I have to do is start sewing!

I also decided to direct some attention ...

Oh Scrap! : Turquoise Blocks from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

The month of August is Teal/Turquoise/Aqua for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge over at So Scrappy.

So I dug through my turquoise color bin and found two solid shades that I haven't used in my Well Suited RSC project.

(Well Suited is the first module of my Scrap Mixology series patterns.
A total of three have been released so far.)

I put them up on my design wall with the other blocks I have completed so far.  I definitely need to do a deep dive into all of my color bins to find more solid shades.  I think ...

Oh Scrap! : Finally some time to Sew from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

We have had a beautiful Spring here in Oregon.  That means I have been spending lots of time outside digging in the dirt.  Last week, the weather cooled and the intermittent rain kept me indoors.  That means I finally had some time to sew!

First thing I accomplished was to turn some purple and blue pinwheel blocks into these cute blocks.

Here are what I have finished so far.  All of these pinwheels have been made from bonus triangles trimmed from making some flying geese blocks.  I think when I go to sew all the blocks together, I will use ...

Oh Scrap! : Time for Purple from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

The RSC color for June is purple - my favorite color!

So the very first blocks I made in purple are my Well Suited blocks.  These blocks are made using one of my Scrap Mixology patterns.

Here is how all the finished blocks look together right now.  This quilt is going to look very different than a lot of the other quilts I made using the same pattern.  You can see some here and here.

I still need to finish my pinwheel blocks.  I am using the bonus triangles from the geese component to make these little cuties.  Hopefully I will ...

Oh Scrap! : Playing with the Red Scraps from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

First, I want to wish all the moms out there a Happy Mother's Day!

I was finally able to get out my red scraps and work a bit on my Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts.  First up were some Two Bit blocks (the pattern is one of my Scrap Mixology modules).

I am challenging myself to get a bit bold with the low volume prints I am using in my blocks.
We will see how it looks when it is all finished!

I also finished some red Well Suited blocks.

And then turned the bonus triangles from the flying geese ...

Oh Scrap! : More RSC Mixology Blocks from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Oh my!  Temperatures in Eugene Oregon reached 80 degrees Saturday.  I was in heaven working in my gardens most of the day.

I still found quite a bit of time to sew up more of my Rainbow Scrap Challenge blocks.  I finished up one more of my blue Well Suited blocks.  I only made three last week and I need 4 of each color for my quilt.  I found a nice light blue solid for the geese blocks.

Last month, I didn't finish all of my RSC blocks.  So I quickly sewed up the 3 Two Bits blocks in ...

Oh Scrap! : Focused on Scraps from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Even though I have been trying to spend a lot of time outdoors, this week I have been also focused on sewing up some scraps.

I found a few more solid colors to make some more postage stamp blocks.  These are becoming a bit tedious to sew - and to cut all the pieces.  For the prints, I am really trying to focus on finding some of the most unloved scraps I have.  So these blocks are really taking a lot of time to complete.

I organized them all up on the design wall.  I still need four more blocks.  I ...

Oh Scrap! : Springtime Green from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I am certainly enjoying spring - both outside and in my sewing room.  The RSC color for March is green and I finished quite a few blocks this week.  Yay!

I added a few more postage stamp blocks to the stack...

I gave them a quick count - hoping I was almost finished with them.  But I only have 26 completed out of a needed 42 blocks.  I am going to have to do another "solids" search so I can finish a bunch more blocks.

I completed my four Well Suited blocks in green for one of my 2021 Rainbow Scrap Challenge ...

Oh Scrap! : Not Much to Share from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Springtime keeps teasing us here in the PNW so I find myself wanting to be outside whenever the sun is out.  Lots of cleanup to do so all the gardens are ready to plant soon.

I did get my green scraps out and started cutting for all my RSC blocks.  I finished sewing two of my postage stamp blocks and one of my Well Suited blocks.  The tiny pinwheel is made with the bonus triangles from the flying geese - gotta use every last bit!

Most of my sewing time lately is spent sewing all the Covered in Love blocks together ...

Oh Scrap! : Yellow from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

A new month means we have a new Rainbow Scrap Challenge color.  And for February the color yellow was chosen.

I am working on numerous RSC quilts this year so I thought I would start the month out by making my Scrap Mixology blocks.

My yellow scrap bin is not that full right now.  It hasn't been that long since we had this color so not that many scraps have multiplied.  I made my newest interpretation of my Two Bits pattern.

I added them to the pink blocks I made last month.  The colors are much brighter in the ...

Oh Scrap! : More RSC Blocks from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

It seems that I have taken on a number of Rainbow Scrap Challenge quilts this year.  So I have been keeping pretty busy making all my pink blocks.

The first blocks I made this week were the ones made from my Well Suited pattern.  This is the first module of my Scrap Mixology pattern series.  When I make my flying geese, I immediately turned the bonus triangles into those cute little pinwheels.  I am not sure yet what I am going to do with them.

I also made the blocks I have been planning using my Two Bits pattern.  I ...

A Blue Finish from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I started noticing this summer that my blue scrap bin was nearing maximum capacity.  Of course I ignored it.  So when I got it out this fall, all of the scraps that I have been carefully tucking in would not go back into the bin.  I had to make a few quilts!

A lot of the scraps were fairly large and chunky - so I thought I would use my Well-Suited Scrap Mixology pattern to make a blue and white quilt.  I have been wanting to play with the "woven" layout with a flying geese center - I think it turned out ...

Oh Scrap! : Let the Scraps Lead from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I still have been busy sewing up blocks for a number of scrap quilts that are in the works.

The main project I have been working on is my blue Well Suited blocks.

As I make the flying geese components for the center, I have been using those bonus triangles to make a bunch of cute pinwheel blocks.  They look so cute all stacked up!

I only have about 6 more blocks to finish and then I can play a bit more with the layout and sew up the blocks.  But I kept thinking about those cute little pinwheels....

Then ...

Oh Scrap! : So Many Projects from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

The last few days have been filled with lots of scraps!

I cut and sewed two more of my postage stamp "pixel" blocks.  I now have four done so that leaves 11 more to do.  This is definitely a project where I am now asking myself...
"What was I thinking!"

I added some low volume pieces to the red and blue scraps I cut last week.  I have been mindlessly sewing them into blocks.  They go together quickly so I already have enough to make a quilt top.

I have also been sewing away on my blue version of my ...

Oh Scrap! : I Couldn't Resist from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

Last month, I shared my newest Rainbow Scrap Challenge block.  These are the first test blocks I have made using this design and I will work on this quilt in 2021.

The blocks are one of the block options contained in my Well Suited pattern.

When I shared the photo, Diann (of Little Penguin Quilts) asked me if I was going to make any of these geese blocks to create the "woven" quilt design.  (You can see her version of this block here.)
I told her "sorry but no".

Well, skip ahead two weeks and as I was staring at ...

Pattern Listing Dilemma Solved from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

First, I appreciate all of the support I have received on my Well Suited scrap pattern release.  I have been busy working on finishing up the second module - which uses scrappy strips.

So stay tuned!

When I originally listed my pattern, I only did so in my Payhip pattern shop.  The fees are minimal on this platform so I could keep the price of the modules down.

Unfortunately, to purchase and download, you need to have a PayPal account.  I did have requests from a few readers to list my patterns somewhere where this is not necessary.

So I am ...
